I’m Zhiwan Cheung, a multimedia artist who explores storytelling, digital media, and identity through installations, sculptures, Virtual Reality, and multi-channel time-based media.

I first got a taste of performing in front of a camera as a book reviewer for Reading Rainbow, the 1990s television show advocating reading for children. Since then, I have continued working with fragmented diasporic narratives as I explore how the histories around us shift in meaning and context. As science fiction writer Ken Liu notes, it is our stories that connect us to our environment and give meaning to abstract concepts such as homeland. In a sense, we live, die, and are forever transformed by our mythologies.

Through my work, I engage with emerging technologies and storytelling to examine how cultural memory and personal histories are mediated in an increasingly digitized world.
